Wellbeing of our Children

Thursday 20th

9.30am-3.30pm

Flemington House, Glasgow, G21 4BF

Core strengths equip our children with the tools they need to face the world with confidence, handle challenges, and thrive emotionally and socially.

These strengths lay the foundation for a healthy emotional, social, and cognitive development.

Core strengths are incredibly important, they complement the curriculum rather than replace it.

We will

  • explore why both are essential for a child’s development, and each plays a unique role in helping children thrive.
  • discover how core strengths make learning possible
  • consider how learning and the development of skills depend on emotional readiness

We will use the ‘frame’ of Bruce Perry, a well-known child psychiatrist, who developed a model of six core strengths in his research. He suggests that Attachment, Self-Regulation, Attunement, Affiliation, Tolerance and Respect should be at the heart of play.
