Emotional development refers to the process by which children and adults learn to recognize, understand, express, and regulate their emotions. It plays a critical role in social interactions, mental health, and overall well-being.
As we plan our spaces and places to play and select resources to inspire our children’s engagement, we should also consider each child’s:
Emotional Expression: The outward display of feelings (e.g., smiling, crying).
Emotional Regulation: The ability to control or manage emotional responses.
Self-Awareness: Recognizing and understanding one’s emotions.
Empathy: The ability to recognize and respond to the emotions of others.
