Emotional development refers to the process by which children and adults learn to recognize, understand, express, and regulate their emotions. It plays a critical role in social interactions, mental health, and overall well-being.

As we plan our spaces and places to play and select resources to inspire our children’s engagement, we should also consider each child’s:

Self-Awareness: Recognizing and understanding one’s emotions.

Empathy: The ability to recognize and respond to the emotions of others.

Social Understanding: Understanding the social context of emotions and how emotions influence relationships.
